ImageDo you have great intentions of stretching, but just never get around to it? Do you do a few stretches and then get distracted and quit? Does your doctor or physiotherapist keep saying you need to stretch, but you don’t do it? If you can answer yes to any one of these questions, Stretch Guru might be just the app for you! It sure was an emergency for me.

For decades I was an injury-free runner, until a few years ago I started having pain in my left knee. My doctor diagnosed it as IT Band Syndrome (a tight IT band due to lack of stretching.) About the same time, two of my running partners, Tanya and Silvia, were also told they needed to stretch for injury prevention.So we committed to it out of necessity. After our runs, Silvia would pull out her timer and we’d all do 30 seconds a side. Calves, hamstrings, quads, IT band, groin, all the vital runner’s stretches. It was perfect!

The idea for the Stretch Guru mobile apps came directly from that experience. I found when I was alone, I was not disciplined enough to work through all the important stretches. And even if I did, I’d get bored after about 7 seconds! I needed an accountability companion.

The family of Stretch Guru mobile apps take users through the best stretches for Runners, Bikers, Swimmers, Skiers, Golfers and Desk Workers, as according to many physiotherapists, desk and computer related injuries are becoming the most common injuries seen in their practices. Simply stretching can make a huge difference. Stretching can also take an injured athlete from the bench to the field more quickly and can even prevent one from being benched in the first place!

So why not get started? Whether you’re an athlete or sedentary, you’re body will thank you. Enjoy and happy stretching to you and yours!


Once you’ve set your default program in the Settings section, all you need to do is launch the app, hit Start, and away you go. The program will automatically run through your selection. Stretch Guru provides you with a few seconds between each side and 5 seconds between each different stretch. There are audio prompts as well as visual ones, so all you need to do is stretch and have fun!


Stretch Guru allows you to choose from three default programs: the Top 6, Top 12 or Top 18 stretches for your sport. Research shows that these are the best stretches, so the programs cannot be altered. You can, however, create three custom programs. Just click on Custom 1, 2 or 3. Then chose your stretches from the menu, rename the program, and enjoy!


If you tap the Stretches tab, you will see all 18 stretches in the program. Click on each for a description of the correct technique. You can scroll through these before using the program to ensure the stretches are performed correctly.


Stretch Guru tracks the number of times you use the program. This will keep you motivated and accountable.


Stretch Guru allows you to set your default stretch duration to 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, or 60 seconds per side. You can also set your default program. Then simply launch the app and away you go!
